In a move to reinvent long-distance travel across India, Uber has announced the expansion of its Intercity service to over 3,000 routes, representing a 50 per cent increase in city-to-city options. To encourage more outstation journeys, Uber has also launched a limited-time offering of bespoke Uber Intercity Motorhomes, an innovative, premium travel experience.
Uber Intercity’s growth reflects India’s expanding highway infrastructure, boosting travel between major metros and smaller towns alike. With consistent year-on-year growth, Uber is committed to broadening coverage and providing more flexible travel options for outstation trips.
Commenting on the impressive expansion, Shweta Mantri, Head of Rider Verticals at Uber India and South Asia, said, “More and more people are choosing to hit the road for quick getaways, family visits, or even business meetings, and they want travel that’s easy, reliable, and comfortable. That’s exactly what Uber Intercity offers, and with the expansion of routes we’re doubling down on transforming outstation road travel for millions.”
Over the past year, the most popular routes included Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Agra, Bangalore-Mysore, Lucknow-Kanpur, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara, especially during long weekends and holidays. Fridays remain the top day for intercity journeys, with many riders opting for early morning departures or travelling during the quieter hours between 2pm and 3pm. Rider interest peaks during festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Eid, and the summer wedding season.
Round trips are increasingly booked for leisure, pilgrimages, and events, while one-way rides continue to serve visits to family and friends, business travel, and first- or last-mile connectivity to airports or railway stations.
The limited-time campaign to promote Uber Intercity features specialised Motorhomes available for trips commencing from Delhi NCR. These Motorhomes include all standard Uber Intercity features such as advanced booking via Reserve, stopovers along the route, live location tracking, and 24/7 helpline support. The Motorhomes will be available from August 7 to September 6, with bookings opening on August 4 through the Uber app, marked by a dedicated icon.
Each Motorhome accommodates 4-5 riders and is assisted by a driver and helper. The vehicles are fitted with entertainment and convenience amenities, including a television, lavatory, microwave, and mini-refrigerator, transforming them into a full-service private lounge on wheels, perfect for weekend escapes or special trips.
With this launch, Uber aims to demonstrate how technology can enhance long-distance road travel, making it more comfortable, flexible, and enjoyable. This limited-time offering provides riders a unique opportunity to experience a new, immersive way of travelling longer distances across India.
