Kochi, India
Travellers across India are showing a clear preference for cities that offer more than just a one-time experience. According to Agoda’s 2025 Repeat Visitor Ranking, New Delhi and NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, and the emerging favourite Kochi have topped the list as India’s most revisited destinations during the first half of the year.
The study, based on Agoda’s booking data, highlights how repeat visits are no longer an exception but increasingly a part of modern travel behaviour. Many visitors returned to the same city multiple times within just six months, showing how certain urban hubs continue to charm travellers with a mix of familiarity and discovery.
While Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore are widely known for their status as strategic travel and business centres, their appeal lies in their connectivity to nearby cultural and natural hotspots. Delhi serves as a convenient jump-off to Agra and the Himalayan foothills, while Bangalore’s proximity to Coorg and Chikmagalur has made it a key blend of business and leisure travel. These cities are not just destinations—they function as gateways to regional escapes, encouraging both corporate and extended personal travel.
Kochi makes a surprise entry!
Kochi, however, is the standout. Long regarded merely as the entrance to Kerala’s backwaters, the coastal city has redefined its tourism identity. With its colonial charm, vibrant contemporary art scene, and walkable historic districts, Kochi is now seen as a standalone cultural destination. Events like the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and a surge in boutique hotel offerings have contributed to this transformation.
Commenting on the trend, Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said, “Travellers are increasingly seeking deeper, more meaningful engagements with destinations, often returning to places that offer both familiarity and continued discovery. The rising interest in cities like Kochi and Chennai reflects a clear shift toward destinations that combine strong local character with enhanced connectivity and infrastructure. As travel patterns evolve, repeat visits highlight the lasting appeal of cities that balance cultural richness, accessibility, and a high quality of experience.”
The report further revealed Asia’s top repeat destinations. Leading the list were Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Bali, and Osaka, followed by Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Da Nang, Johor Bahru, and Hong Kong. Each city continues to captivate travellers with distinct experiences—be it culinary, cultural or coastal.
Agoda, which offers over 6 million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes, and more than 300,000 experiences, enables travellers to plan and revisit their favourite places seamlessly. The trend of repeat travel is not just a reflection of wanderlust—it signals a more personal, immersive style of travel that values depth, comfort, and connection.
