The village of Saligao in Goa is set to transform into a living stage of tradition and festivity as the Department of Tourism announces the much-anticipated Heritage Festival, to be held from May 9-11, 2025. Designed as a celebration of Goa’s rich cultural fabric, this three-day event promises a unique and colourful journey through music, dance, fashion, and heritage.

Speaking about the festival, the Director of Tourism, Kedar Naik, said “The Heritage Festival in Saligao is a showcase of Goa’s living traditions, artistic expression, and the vibrant spirit of our communities. Through such festivals, we aim to create deeper awareness of Goa’s cultural identity and support regenerative tourism that uplifts our people, preserves our heritage, and boosts the local economy.” Through this festival the Director aims to give a platform to the local self help groups and to display the Goan heritage and culture in a big way.

Beginning on Friday, 9th May, the festival will open with a captivating evening of traditional Goan music, setting the tone for the days ahead. The inauguration ceremony will include a formal felicitation, followed by the elegant Lamp Dance and Dekhni performed by the celebrated Kanta Gaude Troupe. Adding a modern flair to the cultural mix, renowned designer Verma Dmello will showcase a fashion show inspired by Goan heritage, leading into a spirited musical performance by Sidhannath Buyao & Band.

The cultural extravaganza continues on Saturday, 10th May, with an eclectic mix of folk performances, once again led by the Kanta Gaude Troupe. This time, they will bring to life the rhythmic Goff dance and the intense Veerbhadra dance, representing different facets of Goa’s traditional storytelling. The evening will close with electrifying live music by RAGA – The Band and a moving performance by Goa’s very own Sonia Sirsat & Band, following another round of felicitation.

The final day, Sunday, May 11th, promises to be equally mesmerising. Audiences will witness more live folk renditions, including the dramatic Jagor, a form of folk theatre, and the lively Corridinho, a Portuguese-influenced dance that remains integral to Goan cultural identity. The festival will end on a high note with performances by RASM Band and the dynamic Black Sapphire Band, ensuring the celebration closes with enthusiasm and energy.

Beyond entertainment, the Heritage Festival is a powerful tribute to Goa’s intangible cultural heritage. It serves as a platform for local talent and traditional art forms, offering both Goans and tourists a window into the state’s unique history and spirit. It also reinforces the importance of preserving these expressions of identity amidst rapid modernisation.

Set in the picturesque village of Saligao, known for its colonial-era charm and lush landscapes, the festival provides the perfect backdrop for a cultural retreat. Attendees can expect not just performances but an immersive atmosphere that brings heritage to life — where every note sung and every step danced tells a story of Goa’s timeless soul.

The Department of Tourism invites everyone to be a part of this vibrant celebration — a fusion of tradition and creativity that promises an unforgettable experience.
