Running from July 5 to 13, the festival offers visitors an immersive experience of Indian culture through workshops, traditional performances, and dance shows. Organised in partnership with the Moscow Government and the Embassy of India in Russia, Bharat Utsav celebrates India's rich heritage, allowing attendees to enjoy its vibrant traditions firsthand.
The festival base at Manezhnaya Square, directly opposite Red Square, has been transformed into an enchanting garden featuring lush greenery, Indian-inspired decorations, and dedicated relaxation zones. Here, expert instructors will guide visitors through yoga and breathing exercises, host masterclasses in traditional dance, and lead meditation sessions. Guests can also discover how classical Indian dance can enhance physical and emotional wellbeing.
Performers from Indian states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Nagaland will entertain crowds with a variety of musical acts. The programme includes contemporary regional music alongside popular Bollywood hits. Both adults and children can enjoy captivating performances, including a special show titled ‘Cinderella in Indian: A Love Story.’
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about folk dances such as Kathak, Sattriya, Bharatanatyam, and Odissi, as well as listen to songs in Maithili and Tamil. There will also be interactive activities, including the quiz ‘Discover India’.
A colourful exhibition of Indian art from across the country is also on display at Manezhnaya Square. The show features ceramics, paintings, traditional attire, wood carvings, and other handcrafted items. India remains a key tourist destination for Moscow, ranking as the second-largest non-CIS source of visitors.
"Interest in Indian culture among both Muscovites and city visitors remains exceptionally strong. This was demonstrated in June when VDNKh hosted 7,000 participants for International Yoga Day. We're delighted to now present another large-scale cultural initiative arranged on behalf of the Moscow Government that further strengthens these ties. Indian participants have come specially to Moscow to share their country's rich traditions, vibrant culture, and exquisite cuisine with residents and visitors," said Bulat Nurmukhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee.
Moscow is also actively strengthening its business links with India. Next week, hundreds of hospitality industry professionals, including representatives from leading Moscow and Indian companies, will gather at the OTOAI Convention in Moscow. Organised by the Association of Outbound Tourism Operators of India, with the support of the Moscow Government, the event aims to foster collaboration between the two nations.
The Festival of India is part of the ‘Summer in Moscow’ initiative, bringing together over 1,000 festivals, cultural events, workshops, sports, and educational activities throughout the city.
