The GI-tagged Robusta coffee from Wayanad’s hill district has received a special mention in the Indian government’s One District One Product (ODOP) programme, according to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi. Taking to the social media platform X, she praised Wayanad Coffee for being the first product from Kerala to earn this distinction, noting it as a recognition of the hard work of local farmers and the district’s unique identity.

This recognition is seen as a significant milestone for Wayanad’s farmers and artisans, showcasing the unique qualities of their GI-tagged Robusta Coffee, which not only embodies the rich cultural heritage of the region but is also a vital contributor to the local economy. Priyanka Gandhi expressed her pride in the community’s efforts and praised the dedication of farmers who cultivate this premium coffee.

“This honour highlights the dedication of Wayanad’s farmers and the distinctive qualities of our GI-tagged Robusta Coffee, which is a key part of Wayanad’s economy,” she said, congratulating everyone involved. “Let us continue to support and celebrate the richness of our land and the spirit of its people,” she added.

The ODOP initiative is a nationwide scheme designed to promote balanced regional development by identifying, branding, and popularising unique products from each district. By doing so, it aims to boost local economies, preserve traditional crafts, and foster pride in regional identities across India.
