Starscapes will host a unique Lunar Eclipse viewing experience at Shama Desert Camp in Jaisalmer from September 6 to 8, 2025. The two-night event offers participants an extraordinary opportunity to witness a Blood Moon rising over the vast Thar Desert, a rare celestial spectacle in which Earth’s shadow bathes the Moon in deep red hues. Surrounded by golden sands and distant from city lights, guests will enjoy some of the darkest skies in India, making this a truly memorable cosmic experience.

As the eclipse unfolds through its stages, from penumbral to partial to total, expert astronomers will guide attendees through every moment, explaining the science, history, and cultural significance of lunar eclipses. This immersive programme combines natural beauty with scientific discovery, creating a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for enthusiasts, families, students and photographers to connect with the wonders of the universe.

Evenings will feature laser-guided constellation tours, mythological moon stories and telescope observations, allowing participants to view craters, rings, nebulae and distant galaxies. Guests will also learn astrophotography techniques to capture the Moon and night sky using both DSLR cameras and smartphones. Daytime sessions will include solar observations with dedicated telescopes, adding another dimension to the experience.

Complementing the astronomical highlights, the programme will include visits to iconic Jaisalmer landmarks such as the Sonar Qila, Gadisar Lake and the Longewala War Memorial, blending heritage and culture with cosmic exploration. Campfire gatherings, storytelling and local cuisine will further enhance the atmosphere of discovery and connection.

Commenting on the event, Ramashish Ray, Founder of Starscapes, said, “Jaisalmer offers one of the clearest skies in India, especially during this time of year. Hosting a Lunar Eclipse viewing here combines a rare astronomical event with a rich cultural setting. With this experience, we aim to make astronomy more accessible and engaging for people of all backgrounds.”

With this initiative, Starscapes continues its mission to create real-world experiences centred around celestial events, transforming unique natural locations into interactive spaces for skywatching and space education.
