Maitland & Knox Heritage Hotels has been Maitland & Knox Heritage Hotels as Island Life – Sri Lanka, signalling a fresh chapter in its story of homegrown luxury hospitality. With a new identity and a focus on immersive, all-inclusive experiences, the group introduces two exciting new destinations alongside its iconic properties.

This rebranding marks one of the most significant transformations by a Sri Lankan boutique hotel chain in recent years. The new name and identity reflect a commitment to experience-led travel, positioning Island Life – Sri Lanka as “the custodians of the perfect Sri Lankan experience.”

The redesigned logo captures the essence of the island—where a wave represents coastal calm and a peak signifies the wild highlands—embodying the rhythm of serenity and adventure that runs through every stay. Guests are invited to uncover Sri Lanka’s stories, from its rich heritage to its vibrant culture, through thoughtfully curated experiences.

At its core, Island Life – Sri Lanka focuses on storytelling, sustainability, and soulful interactions. It promises more than just a place to stay; it offers an opportunity to feel the heartbeat of Sri Lanka—its culture, its people, and its landscape. Every experience is designed to be personal and authentic, from local art and heritage touches to cultural encounters and meaningful moments that deepen the connection with the island.

The portfolio now features three distinguished properties:

  • Thotalagala(Haputale): A beautifully restored 19th-century tea planter’s bungalow nestled in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, offering heritage charm, five-star comfort, gourmet dining, guided walks, an Instagram-worthy infinity pool, and Sri Lanka’s finest high tea.
  • Galle Fort Hotel(Galle): An iconic heritage hotel in the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, with 11 elegant rooms, a curated collection of artefacts, and the acclaimed Ropewalk Bar, voted among Sri Lanka’s best by Conde Nast Traveller.
  • The Warden’s House(Yala): A luxurious boutique safari lodge featuring four stylish rooms with private waterfront views by the Menik River, offering all-inclusive stays that include wildlife safaris, cultural visits, and local craft experiences.

New to the portfolio are two exciting destinations:

  • Hiriketiya: A boutique coastal escape perfect for relaxation and water adventures.
  • Kandy: An enriching cultural hub surrounded by lush landscapes and historic temples.

Island Life’s new identity is rooted in a concept-driven approach, offering:

  • Sanctuary:Peaceful spaces for rest and reflection, adorned with heritage architecture and local art.
  • Adventure:Curated activities from birdwatching and cycling to conservation walks and cooking classes.
  • Memories:Personalized moments, from shared meals to handcrafted keepsakes.
  • Indulgence:Culinary journeys through Sri Lankan flavours, from fine dining to rustic village feasts.
  • Responsibility:A strong focus on community support, sustainability, and environmental care woven into every experience.

Guests can also enjoy exclusive merchandise—hiking socks and scarves at Thotalagala, flip-flops and tote bags at Galle Fort Hotel, and safari hats and water bottles at The Warden’s House—each reflecting the spirit of the property.

Most notably, Island Life – Sri Lanka consolidates diverse regions of the island under one brand, allowing seamless travel between destinations with consistent, curated luxury at each stop.

Amrit Rajaratnam, Founder and Managing Director of Island Life - Sri Lanka, commented, “With Island Life as our new identity, we are witnessing the biggest rebranding and transformation phases that a Sri Lankan homegrown boutique chain has seen in recent times. We are thrilled to now evolve into a lifestyle brand that prioritises experiences and curation. While our iconic properties like Galle Fort Hotel, Thotalagala and The Warden’s House will continue to be at the core of the Island Life experience, our philosophy will now shift towards itineraries that are more immersive and experiential. And this will only get stronger with the announcement of our two new destinations - Hiriketiya and Kandy.”
Shayan Kannangara, Chief Operating Ocer of Island Life - Sri Lanka, added, “Travellers to Sri Lanka can now essentially book a tour through Sri Lanka’s dierent regions under one parent group, Island Life, and easily shuttle between properties to enjoy a consistent experience, thereby making planning a Sri Lanka itinerary much easier. From Galle’s beaches and architecture to Yala’s game drives and finally Haputhale’s plantation bungalow culture, the itinerary is immersive.”
