Travellers seeking greener stays in India now have more reasons to consider ibis hotels. 22 ibis properties across the country have been awarded the globally recognised Green Key Certification, marking a major step in the chain’s sustainability journey.

From bustling metros like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi to coastal escapes in Goa and Kerala, these hotels have embraced environmentally responsible practices that go beyond the usual. ibis Kochi City Centre, notably, has become the first hotel in Kerala to receive the certification – a proud moment for both the hotel and the state.

“Being awarded Green Key Certification at multiple ibis locations across India is a proud achievement for our teams,” said Tejus Jose, Director of Operations, ibis & ibis Styles India. “Sustainability is not a one-time goal but an ongoing journey. At ibis, we are focused on reducing our environmental footprint while creating positive social impact through community engagement and awareness. Our aim is to have every ibis hotel in India certified in the near future.”

The Green Key label recognises hotels that actively reduce their environmental footprint. Across ibis properties, initiatives include energy-efficient lighting, on-site water bottling, and innovative water reuse systems for landscaping and flushing. Many hotels have also taken bold steps to cut down single-use plastics. Beyond infrastructure, ibis engages both staff and guests, offering guidance and awareness programs that encourage eco-conscious behaviour throughout each stay.

The certification is reviewed annually, ensuring that these hotels continue to meet strict environmental standards. Looking ahead, ibis India plans to expand renewable energy use, further reduce water consumption, and phase out single-use plastics entirely.

For travellers, this means that choosing an ibis hotel isn’t just about comfort and convenience – it’s also a way to make a tangible impact on the environment. With sustainability now woven into everyday operations, ibis India offers stays that are as responsible as they are welcoming.
