Air India introduces temporary passenger support measures

Air India and Air India Express announced measures to support travellers affected by travel disruptions across India. Both airlines state they are focused on enabling passengers to reach their destinations with minimal additional cost.

Since December 4, 2025, both airlines have capped economy-class fares on non-stop domestic flights. The decision is intended to prevent standard demand–supply pricing applied through automated revenue management systems. The airlines are also working to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Civil Aviation's directive on airfare caps issued on December 6, 2025.

A one-time waiver of change or cancellation fees has been introduced for eligible domestic bookings. Guests who booked their flights by December 4, 2025, for travel through December 15, 2025, can reschedule to a future date or cancel for a full refund. The waiver applies to changes or cancellations made until December 8, 2025. Any fare difference in case of rescheduling will apply.

Passengers can access these options through the twenty-four-hour contact centres of both airlines or via travel agents. Air India Express guests may also use its chatbot, Tia, on WhatsApp, the airline’s website, mobile app and Facebook Messenger.

To address high call volumes during this period, additional resources have been deployed at the contact centres of both airlines.

The airlines are also maximising seat availability across their networks. Where operationally feasible, eligible economy passengers may be upgraded at no additional cost to ensure all available seats are used to accommodate travellers. Further flights are being operated on selected routes.

Both airlines continue to offer discounted fares and concessions for students, senior citizens and armed forces personnel through their websites and mobile apps. These fares may be lower than the capped economy fares, depending on availability.
