The new service strengthens air connectivity between Thailand and Uttar Pradesh, offering direct travel options for passengers from Varanasi to Bangkok. It also enables travellers from Thailand to access Varanasi, Sarnath and other destinations linked to the Buddhist circuit. Bookings are open on the airline’s website, mobile application and other booking platforms.

Speaking on the announcement, Aloke Singh, Managing Director, Air India Express, said, “The introduction of this non-stop service to Bangkok provides seamless access to one of India’s most sought-after international destinations. It aligns with our strategic focus on enhancing direct international connectivity from the nation’s rapidly growing non-metro and Tier-II cities. For inbound travellers, the service strengthens access to Varanasi - one of the world’s oldest continually inhabited cities and widely regarded as India’s spiritual capital - while further developing the Buddhist travel circuit for visitors from Thailand.

This new connection reflects our credo of expanding the network with meaningful connections, supporting our commitment to deliver greater convenience and value to our guests.”

The launch expands Air India Express’ operations in Thailand, where the airline already connects Bangkok with Bengaluru, Lucknow, Pune and Surat, and operates direct flights between Hyderabad and Phuket.

The service also enhances the airline’s presence in Varanasi, from where it currently operates more than seventy weekly flights to Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Sharjah. Air India Express was the first airline to introduce international flights from Varanasi, launching services to Sharjah in August 2015. Within Uttar Pradesh, the airline also operates flights from Ayodhya, Hindon and Lucknow.

Air India Express recently introduced an upgraded cabin experience on its Boeing 737-8 aircraft, featuring improved seating, in-seat USB charging, refreshed interiors and Boeing Sky Interior lighting. The airline has also rolled out its ‘Xplore More, Xpress More’ brand campaign across its network of over sixty destinations.

The airline’s ‘Tales of India’ initiative showcases regional Indian art forms on aircraft tail designs, including Banarasi weave and Chikankari embroidery, representing over fifty indigenous art styles from twenty-five states.

From Varanasi, Air India Express provides direct connectivity to Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangkok and Sharjah, along with one-stop connections to thirty domestic and eight international destinations.
