Akasa Air Expands in Assam

Akasa Air announced the addition of Dibrugarh as the 32nd destination in its network and the 26th domestic point, marking further expansion of its presence in Assam. The airline will begin three weekly direct flights between Dibrugarh and Bagdogra from February 1, 2026. It will also offer through-flights between Dibrugarh and Bengaluru via Bagdogra, with no change of aircraft required at Bagdogra. Bookings are now open through the airline’s website, mobile application and leading online travel agencies. The new services build on Akasa Air’s existing operations from Guwahati and improve connectivity within the Northeast.

Dibrugarh is recognised as the Tea City of India and is an important economic and cultural centre in Upper Assam, acting as a gateway to neighbouring Northeastern states. Enhanced air access to the city is expected to support travel within the region and meet demand from business and leisure travellers.

Akasa Air Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Praveen Iyer, said, “Dibrugarh’s addition to the Akasa Air network represents an important step in advancing our long-term strategy of strengthening air connectivity across high-potential regions of the country. Assam and the broader Northeast are of significant economic and cultural importance to India, and improved air access is critical to accelerating the region’s growth trajectory. With this launch, we continue to build a balanced and future-ready network that improves mobility for travellers, deepens regional integration, and connects emerging centres with India’s key economic hubs. We look forward to offering travellers the warm and dependable Akasa experience that has become our hallmark.”

The expansion aligns with the airline’s objective of contributing to India’s air transportation network by strengthening links that support regional and national mobility.

Akasa Air offers a range of services, including USB ports in the majority of aircraft, Café Akasa onboard meals, and the Pets on Akasa policy that allows pets in the cabin or in cargo. The airline offers more than 25 ancillary products, including Akasa GetEarly, Seat & Meal Deal, Extra Seat, and Akasa Holidays. It has also introduced initiatives such as SkyScore by Akasa, SkyLights and QuietFlights, and provides its safety instruction card and onboard menu card in Braille for customers with visual impairment.

The flight schedule for the Dibrugarh–Bagdogra–Bengaluru route will begin on February 1, 2026, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
