Akasa Air has taken another step towards sustainable aviation by announcing a partnership with OpenAirlines, a global leader in fuel efficiency solutions. The airline will roll out SkyBreathe®, an advanced platform designed to help airlines optimise fuel use and cut carbon emissions through data-driven insights.

Developed using artificial intelligence and big data, SkyBreathe® analyses flight data to highlight opportunities for fuel savings and operational efficiency. By leveraging the world’s largest fuel efficiency database, which includes over 21 million flights, the platform enables airlines to reduce fuel consumption by up to five per cent without any aircraft modifications. This not only lowers costs but also significantly reduces carbon emissions, making flying more sustainable.

Commenting on the partnership, Belson Coutinho, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Akasa Air, said, “As one of the greenest airlines in the world, sustainability is deeply ingrained in Akasa Air’s core values. We have undertaken a holistic and action-oriented approach, launching several initiatives that offer an environmentally progressive travel experience. Our growth story is well-aligned with our commitment to sustainability, and our partnership with OpenAirlines is a testament to this vision. By leveraging SkyBreathe®’s advanced analytics, Akasa will have access to deeper insights into our operations and unlock meaningful opportunities to optimise fuel use and emissions. This collaboration reflects our unwavering focus on driving innovation that supports our environmental goals while delivering operational excellence.”

What sets SkyBreathe® apart is its accessibility. Designed with a user-friendly interface, the system can be used by pilots, flight dispatchers, engineers, and fuel managers, creating a more collaborative approach to fuel management. The idea is to involve all key players in adopting eco-flying practices, turning sustainability into a shared responsibility rather than a top-down directive.

By joining the SkyBreathe® Community, Akasa Air also becomes part of a global network of over 75 airlines committed to reducing aviation’s environmental footprint. This collective approach allows carriers to exchange best practices and insights, accelerating progress towards greener operations industry-wide.

“We are thrilled to welcome Akasa Air to the SkyBreathe® Community, joining the global movement towards a more sustainable aviation industry,” said Alexandre Feray, CEO at OpenAirlines. “Their rapid growth and focus on operational efficiency make them a strong fit for our solution. SkyBreathe® will empower them to achieve measurable fuel savings, reduce CO2 emissions, and optimise their operations as they expand.”

The move aligns with Akasa Air’s vision of embedding sustainability into its operations from the outset. Since its launch, the airline has emphasised efficiency and customer experience, and this latest step demonstrates its long-term commitment to balancing growth with environmental responsibility.

For travellers, initiatives like these may be invisible in day-to-day flying, but they make a real difference behind the scenes. Cutting emissions and optimising fuel use contribute to a more sustainable future for aviation, an industry increasingly focused on reducing its environmental impact while keeping the world connected.
