In a bid to broaden tourism offerings, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS), under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has announced the introduction of a new fortnightly round-voyage cruise service to Barren Island from Sri Vijaya Puram. The service will begin its inaugural journey on Friday, October 24, 2025, and offers travellers a rare opportunity to witness the spectacular views of India’s only active volcano.

The round voyage will depart Haddo Wharf, Sri Vijaya Puram, every fortnight on Fridays at 21:00, arriving near Barren Island in the early hours of Saturday. The return leg will depart at 08:00 and finish at approximately 16:00 on the same day. Notably, this is a non-disembarkation trip, with passengers able to enjoy panoramic views of the volcanic island from the vessel. Separate trips will be organised for government school pupils.

Bookings for this exclusive cruise can be made online via the DSS e-ticketing portal. Food will be served onboard for an additional charge, via an inclusive meal coupon covering snacks, high tea, bed tea/breakfast, lunch, and evening tea. Coupons can be purchased directly on board.
