Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on Saturday to share exciting developments aimed at making the pilgrimage easier and more efficient for visitors.

He announced, "We are constructing a ropeway from Kamakhya station to the temple, as well as another from Sonaram Field to the temple. Work on both projects is underway, and the tendering process has already been initiated. Additionally, feasibility studies are being conducted for several other potential ropeway routes."

These new ropeways are set to significantly improve accessibility to the Kamakhya Temple, offering visitors a quicker and more convenient travel option. This development is expected to boost tourism and support the local economy.

Two days after the close of the Ambubachi Festival, CM visited the temple to offer prayers, citing the large crowds as the reason for his delayed visit. He expressed his blessings for the well-being of the people of Assam, accompanied by his family.

He also took the opportunity to thank the Temple Management Committee, the Tourism Department, Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, and everyone involved in organising the Ambubachi Festival.

The annual Ambubachi Mela, one of Assam's most significant Hindu festivals, began on June 22 and concluded on June 26. Held atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, the festival celebrates the Goddess Kamakhya’s annual menstruation cycle, symbolising divine feminine power. After conducting special rituals, the temple's main entrance was closed on June 22 and reopened upon the festival’s conclusion.

The event attracts devotees from across India and abroad. Besides the main festival, other important pujas held at the temple include Durga Puja, Durgadeul, Madandeul, Manasa Puja, Pohan Biya, and Vasanti Puja. Kamakhya is renowned as a prominent centre of Tantric practices and is recognised as one of the oldest of India's 51 Shakti Peethas.
