Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree
Mandai Rainforest Resort Opens in Singapore
Banyan Group (Banyan Tree Holdings Limited) and Mandai Wildlife Group have announced the opening of Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree. Mandai Wildlife Group owns the resort and marks Banyan Group’s entry into Singapore. It is part of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, a nature and wildlife destination within the capital city.
Eddy See, President and Chief Executive Officer of Banyan Group, said, “As we mark our 100th hotel with our first in Singapore, Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree represents a deeply meaningful homecoming. It brings together our legacy of design-led hospitality with our commitment to stewardship and shared impact. Here, guests are invited to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience travel as a force that uplifts people, places, and communities. As the first resort within a world-leading wildlife and nature destination in a capital city, it offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy meaningful wildlife experiences right at their doorstep, a powerful expression of Singapore’s City in Nature vision.”
A spokesperson from Mandai Wildlife Group said the precinct has been under transformation for over a decade, with the aim of shaping a nature and wildlife destination that provides access to outdoor spaces and to the region’s biodiversity.
Set across 4.6 hectares, Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree incorporates biophilic design elements. Elevated structures preserve the natural terrain and retain mature trees, including a twelve-metre Rain Tree (Samanea saman) and an Indian Beech tree (Millettia pinnata), which form part of the arrival experience.
The resort includes elevated treehouses inspired by the seed pods of the Purple Millettia (Adinobotrys atropurpureus). Positioned within the canopy, they allow vegetation to grow beneath and offer views towards Upper Seletar Reservoir. A five-storey building adjacent to the treehouses houses guest rooms and suites with views of the forest, gardens, and the reservoir.
Interior features include artwork by Singaporean artist Donna Ong, representing the layers of the rainforest, and antique lithographs of native wildlife, including the lesser mousedeer, white-collared kingfisher, Sumatran flying dragon, and grey-headed fish eagle. Rooms include full-length windows for natural ventilation and displays that track power usage. Rainwater harvesting supports flushing systems. The property holds Singapore’s first Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification for a resort.
Forage, the resort’s restaurant, offers views of Upper Seletar Reservoir and uses ingredients from its rooftop garden and from local producers. The restaurant also provides access to an observation deck used for birdwatching. More than thirty species have been recorded in the area, including white-throated kingfishers, sunbirds, and bulbuls.
A rooftop pool gives views across the reservoir, while the Discovery Forest features young trees representing forest types that once grew in the region. The Edible Garden contains more than fifteen native herbs, including Butterfly Pea, Torch Ginger, Roselle, Pandan, Lemongrass, and Asam Gelugor.
Banyan Tree Spa includes treatment pavilions and suites set into the surrounding landscape. Three treatment pods are shaped to reflect the scales of the Sunda pangolin.
The resort’s playground features structures modelled on elements of the rainforest, including cannonball fruits, buttress roots, and leaves. Features include climbing structures, a built-in slide, and a netted leaf design.
Guests have access to the wildlife parks within the Mandai Wildlife Reserve — Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders, Rainforest Wild Asia, Bird Paradise, and Curiosity Cove, a nature-inspired indoor playscape. Stays at the resort include special rates for entry and signature programmes, along with activities for different age groups, from the Wild Zoo Day Camp for children to wellbeing and wildlife experiences.
