The Delhi government has announced plans to introduce smart travel cards for buses, along with restructuring bus routes and redesigning bus queue shelters (BQS), according to Minister Pankaj Singh.

Singh stated that these cards will facilitate seamless travel across DTC buses, the Delhi Metro, and the upcoming Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a meeting of the Transport Department on Tuesday, mentioned that both small (DEVI) and large buses are being increased, with new routes being strategically planned to improve connectivity.

Addressing concerns about outdated routes, Gupta explained that the government has partnered with IIT Delhi to develop a comprehensive new route plan aimed at enhancing bus connectivity in remote areas and better integrating with Metro services. A pilot project will be launched in Yamuna Vihar before a citywide rollout.

Gupta also outlined key developments shaping Delhi’s future public transport. This includes the introduction of pink cards, which will soon enable free travel for women and members of the transgender community on DTC buses. Discussions with banks are currently underway to facilitate a smooth rollout of these cards.

Another major focus is the modernisation of BQS. All bus shelters will be upgraded with real-time arrival displays, LED lighting, digital boards, solar power support, and weather-resistant designs.
