Aviation regulator seeks support during peak travel period

India’s aviation regulator has appealed to all pilot associations and pilots across the country to support efforts to stabilise flight operations during the current period of disruption.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated that flights have been affected by operational constraints, unpredictable weather patterns, and rising seasonal demand, resulting in delays, cancellations, and widespread passenger inconvenience.

The regulator highlighted that the aviation sector is now entering the fog season, combined with the holiday and marriage travel period, which are expected to drive a sharp rise in passenger volumes and potential weather-related disruptions. According to the authority, the industry may face further operational challenges as scheduling becomes increasingly complex.

In its appeal, DGCA requested cooperation from pilot bodies and individuals to maintain stable, smooth flight operations during this peak,  weather-sensitive period. The regulator urged pilots to support efforts to reduce avoidable delays and cancellations, and to ensure that passengers are not further inconvenienced during a critical travel window. It also encouraged stronger coordination between pilots and airlines to proactively and safely manage the situation.

“This appeal is made with deep respect for the essential role that pilots and pilot organisations play in India’s aviation ecosystem. We trust in your sense of duty, professionalism, and commitment to public service during these challenging times,” the statement said.

The regulator added that it remains committed to safety and to the implementation of Flight Duty Time Limitations Civil Aviation Requirements in “letter and spirit”.

DGCA called for collective action to ensure that air travel remains safe, reliable, and minimally disrupted for the millions of passengers who depend on it. It thanked stakeholders for their “understanding and cooperation”.

The appeal, signed by Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, called for collective action to ensure that air travel remains safe and minimally disrupted for passengers.
