The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has intensified its review of airfare trends ahead of the forthcoming festive season. Tasked by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to keep a close watch on ticket prices, the regulator has urged airlines to ensure adequate capacity to prevent sharp fare hikes during peak travel demand.

In response to the directive, carriers have announced substantial capacity increases. IndiGo plans 730 additional flights across 42 routes, while Air India and Air India Express together will operate 486 extra flights covering 20 sectors. SpiceJet has also expanded its timetable with 546 additional flights across 38 routes.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed that the DGCA will continue to maintain strict oversight on both airfares and capacity deployment throughout the festive period to safeguard passengers’ interests and ensure smoother travel.
