India’s Sports Tourism on a Rapid Rise
India’s sports tourism industry, valued at $10.87 billion in 2023, is projected to surge to $ 68.7 billion by 2035. In the first half of 2024, over 15 million Indians travelled abroad, often planning trips around major global sporting events. A recent study shows that 71 per cent of Indian travellers are willing to journey overseas for sporting events, reflecting a shift towards experience-based travel.
With India preparing for a bid to host the Olympics in 2036, showcasing icons such as Bolt — whose legacy was shaped on the Olympic track — signifies more than just a fan moment. It highlights India’s rising prominence on the international sporting stage and serves as an inspiration for a new generation of athletes chasing Olympic dreams
