Cleartrip, a Flipkart company and one of India’s online travel platforms, has shared new insights from its latest report, revealing how Gen Z travellers are transforming the Indian travel scene. With a strong digital focus and a desire for personalised experiences, this generation is embracing independence, flexibility, and a willingness to invest in comfort and freedom.
“Gen Z travellers are rewriting the rules of Travel. For them, travel is not just a break, but a lifestyle choice and a form of self-expression,” said a Cleartrip spokesperson. “They’re independent, digitally savvy, and far more willing to spend on personalised, comfortable experiences, often preferring solo or niche travel over traditional group itineraries.”
Key Highlights from the Cleartrip Gen Z Travel Report
Gen Z is Opting for Solo Travel
Data shows that Gen Z is increasingly travelling alone, with a seven per cent higher proportion of solo trips compared to other age groups. This marks a shift from traditional family holidays, which often involve shared budgets and decisions made by older family members. Today’s young travellers prefer discovering offbeat destinations driven by adventure, nature, and tranquillity over classic sightseeing.
Smart and Flexible Payments Shape Their Travel Choices
This independent approach extends to how they pay for their holidays. Gen Z is favouring UPI and debit cards more than credit cards, with a 10 per cent increase in UPI transactions compared to other demographics. Additionally, over 10 per cent of Gen Z travellers choose EMI options for payments, highlighting their desire to enjoy luxury travel without compromising on budget.
Convenience is King
Booking meals along with travel arrangements is becoming more popular among Gen Z, demonstrating their growing preference for hassle-free, full-service experiences.
Flexibility and Value Are Essential
Gen Z travellers tend to choose flexible options like Cleartrip’s ClearChoice, aligning with their spontaneous travel style. They are also around 1 in 10 more likely to redeem reward points such as SuperCoins or utilise travel coupons — 1.5 times more often than older travellers, showcasing their focus on getting the best value for money
