Germany is fast becoming one of the most sought-after destinations in Europe for Indian travellers, with the latest figures showing a steady recovery. From January to July 2025, the country welcomed more than 520,000 overnight stays from India, reflecting a 5.5 per cent rise in arrivals compared to the same period last year.
This growth positions Germany firmly among the top three European destinations for Indian outbound tourism. The surge comes at a time when travellers are seeking cultural experiences, natural landscapes and city breaks that offer both leisure and discovery.
One of the key reasons behind this rise is improved flight connectivity. Capacity between India and Germany has grown significantly, with a 26 per cent increase compared to pre-pandemic 2019 levels. More direct and frequent flights have made travel easier, allowing visitors to explore German cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg, along with scenic regions like the Black Forest and Bavaria.
“India is, without a doubt, a crucial market for Destination Germany. The year-on-year growth and the pace of recovery we are witnessing are extremely encouraging. This is a clear signal that Germany’s blend of historic cities, breathtaking nature, and vibrant culture is resonating with Indian travellers. The financial impact of this growth is also significant, and we are committed to deepening our engagement with this market,” says Romit Theophilus, Director, Marketing & Sales Office – India, GNTO.
Indian travellers also make a strong economic impact. In 2024 alone, their trips generated around EUR 1.1 billion for Germany, with the average spend per visit standing at EUR 3,068. This underlines the value of the Indian market, not just in terms of numbers but also in its contribution to the tourism economy.
Looking ahead, the German National Tourist Office is set to introduce new campaigns and initiatives to engage Indian travellers further, ensuring Germany remains a favourite on the European map for both leisure and business travel.
