The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) forecasts that international visitor expenditure will reach a new high of $2.1 trillion this year, surpassing the 2019 peak by $164 billion. Globally, the sector’s contribution to the economy is expected to hit $11.7 trillion, accounting for 10.3 per cent of the world’s GDP, and supporting around 371 million jobs—more than the entire population of the United States.

While some major economies, like the United States and China, are experiencing a slowdown in tourism growth, Saudi Arabia stands out with exceptional performance. The country is projected to see a record SAR 447.2 billion (£100 billion) injected into its economy through travel and tourism this year, with sector employment reaching an all-time high of 2.7 million.

This growth is driven by high levels of both international and domestic spending, with inbound visitors expected to spend nearly SAR 200 billion (£43 billion) and domestic travellers contributing around SAR 162.5 billion (£35 billion). Saudi Arabia is establishing itself as a significant global tourism destination.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said, “Thanks to the leadership of His Excellency Ahmed Al Khateeb, Saudi Arabia's Travel & Tourism sector is not just growing, it’s thriving. The Kingdom is redefining what’s possible, and will not only meet, but exceed the ambitions of Vision 2030.”

Across the Middle East, the region’s travel industry is anticipated to contribute approximately $367.3 billion and support 7.7 million jobs, with international spending surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
