Goa’s tourism figures have hit new heights in the first half of 2025, with a significant rise in both domestic and international arrivals. According to the Department of Tourism, the state welcomed an unprecedented number of visitors from January to June, solidifying its reputation as one of India’s most popular and evolving travel destinations.

Early data shows tourist numbers have reached historic levels, with increases across all categories — including solo travellers, families, FITs, and organised tours. In total, 54.55 lakh tourists visited Goa during this period. Of these, 51.84 lakh were domestic visitors, and 2.71 lakh were international tourists. January was the peak month, with 10.56 lakh visitors, including 9.86 lakh from within India and nearly 70,000 from overseas.

February saw 9.05 lakh visitors, with 8.44 lakh domestic and over 61,000 international travellers. March recorded 8.89 lakh visitors, comprising 8.32 lakh Indians and around 56,000 overseas guests.

Despite the summer heat, tourism activity remained robust. In April, Goa welcomed 8.42 lakh visitors, including 8.14 lakh domestic tourists and 28,000 international arrivals. May brought in 9.27 lakh visitors, with 8.97 lakh from India and almost 30,000 from abroad. June saw 8.34 lakh arrivals, including 8.08 lakh domestic and around 25,000 international visitors.

Commenting on the growth, Director of Tourism, Kedar Naik, said, “This boom is the result of a multi-pronged approach adopted by the state. We have intensified promotional campaigns in key source markets, both domestic and global, participated in leading travel trade exhibitions, and launched innovative marketing initiatives under the ‘Regenerative Tourism’ umbrella. These efforts have enhanced visibility and reinforced Goa’s image not just as a beach destination, but one that offers a diverse array of experiences, from hinterland trails and heritage walks to spiritual and wellness retreats.”

Goa’s presence at national and international travel trade fairs, its focus on cultural and monsoon tourism, spiritual routes, and hinterland explorations, along with hosting major festivals and sporting events, have attracted a broad spectrum of visitors. The growing number of foreign tourists, particularly from the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia, is also credited to improved flight connectivity and smoother travel arrangements.

Infrastructure enhancements, including upgraded airports, transport facilities, and new hospitality offerings, have further supported Goa in managing high visitor numbers while maintaining quality service.

With the monsoon season in full flow and an exciting calendar of festivals and experiences ahead, the Department of Tourism expects the positive trend to continue into the latter half of the year. As the state continues to diversify its tourism offerings, these record-breaking figures reflect the successful combination of strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, and Goa’s timeless charm.
