In a significant move to transform Goa’s tourism sector, Rohan A Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, held key discussions in New Delhi with Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, and Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Union Minister for Civil Aviation.
The meetings focussed on developing collaborative strategies to elevate Goa as a high-value tourism destination, emphasising experiential infrastructure, cultural richness, and improved aviation connectivity.
“Goa is not just a destination; it’s a cultural emotion. By building a concert economy and strengthening aviation linkages, we aim to make Goa globally accessible while preserving its soul”, said Rohan A Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Goa . “Our discussions today reflected a shared commitment between the Centre and the State to work together on building a tourism framework that is experiential, sustainable, and globally connected.”
With the Union Tourism Minister, the conversation highlighted the growing potential of the concert economy, a model driven by immersive, experience-led tourism. Both sides agreed on leveraging Goa’s rich heritage, spiritual assets, and vibrant festivals to attract global travellers seeking authentic Indian experiences. Developing sustainable and iconic tourism infrastructure that reflects Goa’s unique identity emerged as a key priority.
In his meeting with the Civil Aviation Minister, Khaunte stressed the urgent need to enhance international direct connectivity to Goa from key global markets and improve domestic route viability. He raised concerns over current airfare structures, especially on domestic routes, urging a re-evaluation to ensure fair pricing and consistent tourist inflow. Both ministers recognised the importance of coordinated efforts to bridge connectivity gaps and support Goa's positioning as a year-round destination.
With a shared vision for innovation and inclusivity in tourism, the discussions mark a step forward in Goa’s mission to become a leading experiential and cultural hub in India. Travellers from India and abroad can expect improved access and richer experiences in the coming years.
Accompanying the Minister were senior officials from the Department of Tourism, including Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary (Tourism), Government of Goa, and Shawn Mendes, Officer on Special Duty to the Minister for Tourism of the Government of Goa.
Both Union Ministers acknowledged Goa’s proactive tourism initiatives and assured continued support in aligning state-level priorities and the national policies.These engagements reflect a shared commitment to building a future-ready tourism landscape that balances sustainability, culture, and connectivity at its core.
