Hyderabad is preparing to make waves with an unusual new attraction, India’s very first artificial beach. Planned on the city’s outskirts, the project promises residents and visitors a taste of the coast without leaving Telangana.

The Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) confirmed that the initiative comes in response to rising demand from locals who want beach-style experiences closer to home. Officials say it will not only provide a much-needed leisure spot but also boost the city’s profile as a tourism hub.

The plan involves converting part of a city lake into a sandy shoreline, designed to recreate the charm of a natural coastline. Visitors can look forward to adventure sports like bungee jumping and sailing, boating trips across the lake, and beach volleyball for those who prefer more active pursuits. Alongside thrills, the site will also feature quieter corners for relaxation, with landscaped parks, playgrounds and cycling tracks making it a family-friendly destination.

Food and hospitality are central to the project. Multiple food courts will serve local and international cuisine, while hotels are expected to allow visitors to extend their stay. Together, these amenities are designed to make the beach an all-day escape or even a weekend getaway.

If approved, this will be a landmark development – the first of its kind in India. Officials believe it could transform Telangana’s tourism landscape by drawing travellers from across the country, creating jobs and stimulating local businesses. It also fits the state’s broader vision of positioning Hyderabad as more than just a tech and heritage city, but a destination offering fresh and diverse leisure experiences.

The project could also serve as a model for other inland cities looking to offer coastal-style attractions. With careful planning around environmental balance and sustainability, Hyderabad’s artificial beach has the potential to redefine urban tourism while offering locals a new spot to relax, play and make memories.

For now, anticipation is building. Soon, Hyderabadis may no longer need a flight to Goa or Kerala for a taste of the beach – the sands could be waiting right at their doorstep.
