In a significant step towards eco-friendly aviation, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has partnered with software firm Chooose to offer verified emissions data and support sustainability-focused air travel decisions. This strategic alliance will integrate Chooose’s emissions data systems with IATA’s CO2 Connect, enabling more than 70 participating airlines to deliver transparent, flight-specific carbon emissions data to customers.
This move is designed to meet growing demand from travellers—especially business passengers—for accurate carbon reporting. IATA’s research from April 2024 revealed that nearly 40 per cent of passengers actively monitor emissions when choosing flights. Now, thanks to this integration, corporate clients and leisure travellers alike can make better-informed decisions.
Verified Data on Every Flight
The data from IATA CO2 Connect meets IATA RP 1726 and ISO 14083 standards, ensuring that carbon emission calculations are both consistent and credible. Through this collaboration, airlines managing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) programmes can automatically calculate emissions and provide passengers with clear insights into the environmental impact of their flights.
Passengers booking with the over 30 airlines already partnered with Chooose can now view carbon emissions data directly through digital platforms, including reductions made possible by SAF usage. With SAF playing a crucial role in reducing aviation's carbon footprint, this level of transparency marks a significant shift in how airlines engage with climate-conscious passengers.
Empowering Eco-Conscious Travellers
The integration means passengers will no longer fly blind when it comes to emissions. With precise data available at the time of booking, travellers can choose routes, airlines, or aircraft types that align with their personal sustainability goals. For business travellers especially, this makes it easier to meet internal sustainability targets while also supporting airlines that are leading the way in emissions reduction.
Chooose’s digital platform also facilitates seamless tracking of SAF contributions and other green measures, offering both individuals and corporations a full view of their aviation footprint. By embedding emissions transparency into customer relationship management systems, airlines can offer more customised, climate-conscious travel options.
Aligning with Global Standards
What makes this initiative particularly robust is its adherence to ISO 14083, the international standard for greenhouse gas emissions from transport. By complying with such standards, airlines can now certify emissions reductions and offer tangible proof of climate accountability—something increasingly important to both regulators and customers.
Airlines Can Gain Customer Trust
As carbon awareness grows among passengers, airlines that prioritise sustainability stand to benefit. Providing real-time, reliable emissions data could directly influence traveller loyalty, especially in markets where eco-conscious travel is rapidly rising. This transparency, coupled with authentic green initiatives like SAF adoption, offers a competitive edge in the global aviation market.
A Digital Push for Decarbonisation
Chooose, now a key member of the IATA Strategic Partnerships Programme, is widely recognised for its digital sustainability tools. By providing scalable solutions for airlines, the company helps integrate emissions data directly into booking and post-flight communications. This initiative not only supports IATA’s decarbonisation goals but also signals a wider industry shift where digital innovation drives climate accountability.
A Greener Future for Flying
In a world where sustainability is no longer optional, the IATA-Chooose collaboration sets a new benchmark for aviation. By offering passengers the tools to track and reduce their carbon footprint, it promotes a travel culture that is both responsible and transparent.
From SAF reporting to ISO-aligned data and passenger-facing tools, this partnership is not just a technology upgrade—it’s a step towards truly sustainable air travel.
