The Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir has assured his full support for the revival of tourism in the region.
A delegation of 30 members from the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), led by President Ravi Gosain, met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today in Srinagar. During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the delegation for their initiative and reiterated the importance of tourist safety and security. He urged delegates to communicate that Kashmir remains a safe travel destination. Yasha Mudgal, Commissioner and Secretary for Tourism, and Raja Yaqoob Farooq, Director of Tourism for Kashmir, were also present and assured their department’s unwavering support.
This meeting forms part of the three-day ‘Rubaroo Jammu & Kashmir’ campaign held from June 14 to 17, during which IATO members visited various locations in Pahalgam and Srinagar. The delegation observed that the valley was peaceful and welcoming.
According to Ravi Gosain, “ It was important to assess the ground situation and during our three days stay we found the state as safe as any other place. Besides, we have assurances from the highest echelons of the government and that gives us all huge confidence and I am sure tourist flow to the state would be back to normal in times to come.”
“Post Pahalgam incident there were scores of cancellations faced by IATO members both by domestic and foreign tourists. Obviously the sentiment was hit but it is important to restore confidence and revivetourism. The visit is a step in this direction and we are completely satisfied with safety arrangements made by the government,” added Gosain.
Additionally, IATO extended an invitation to the Chief Minister for the 40th IATO Annual Convention, scheduled to take place in Puri, Odisha, from 22nd to 25th August 2025. The event will welcome between 1,000 and 1,200 delegates from across India. The Chief Minister has, in principle, accepted the invitation and assured that Jammu & Kashmir Tourism will participate with a strong delegation.
