In a continued effort to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Cyprus, Indian High Commissioner Manish met with Cyprus’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, in Nicosia to discuss advancing bilateral tourism cooperation. The discussions centred on launching targeted tourism initiatives and exploring the feasibility of establishing direct air connectivity between the two nations.

The meeting underscored a shared commitment to enhancing people-to-people links and fostering cultural ties through increased visibility, heritage promotion, and collaborative dialogue. The High Commission of India in Cyprus outlined the discussion via a post on X, stating, “Amidst growing India–Cyprus strategic partnership, talks covered areas such as bilateral tourism promotion, cultural exchange initiatives, and potential collaboration on film production. The meeting reflects a mutual dedication to strengthening people-to-people bonds, boosting visibility, and deepening connections through heritage and dialogue.”

This engagement follows Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June, where he held in-depth discussions with Cyprus’s President, Nikos Christodoulides. Their talks encompassed bilateral, regional, and global issues, highlighting a growing alignment in values, interests, and international outlook. Both parties expressed a strong desire to enhance tourism cooperation and facilitate easier travel through direct or shared airline routes.

Recognising the strategic importance of people-to-people links, both India and Cyprus reaffirmed their focus on expanding cultural exchanges and economic partnerships. As part of this endeavour, they aim to finalise a Mobility Pilot Programme Arrangement by the end of 2025, demonstrating their commitment to deepening collaboration across key sectors and contributing to both regional and global prosperity.
