India has widened the reach of its electronic Tourist Visa (e TV) programme to cover 166 nationalities, up from 157 a year earlier. The change, confirmed by the Ministry of Tourism in early February 2026, means travellers from many more countries can now apply for an electronic visa to visit India.
Under the expanded scheme, eligible visitors can complete the entire visa process online, including submitting their application, paying fees and receiving approval electronically. Applications are usually processed within a few days. The standard e Tourist Visa permits travellers to enter India for leisure, sightseeing and other short term purposes.
The expansion adds a range of new countries from regions such as Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe, including Kenya, Algeria, Fiji, Uruguay, Armenia and North Macedonia, among others.
The move is intended to support growth in inbound tourism and international business travel by simplifying entry procedures for foreign visitors. By making travel more accessible through digital processing, India aims to attract a wider range of tourists and short term visitors in line with its broader tourism goals.
