The 21st edition of the World Rose Convention will take place in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in 2028, marking the first time India hosts this prestigious international event. The announcement was made by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) during the closing ceremony of the 20th convention held in Fukuyama, Japan. Over 700 delegates from more than 40 countries are expected to attend.

Bhopal’s scenic lakes and gardens provide an ideal backdrop for the event, which will feature themed gardens, technical sessions, cultural performances, and tourism showcases from across Madhya Pradesh.

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board represented India at the 20th convention, with the delegation led by Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of the Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trusts & Endowments Department. During the ceremony, the WFRS flag was formally handed over to Shukla, signifying Madhya Pradesh’s responsibility for hosting in 2028.

Speaking at the occasion, Shukla stated, “It is a matter of immense pride for us to be given the honour of hosting the 21st World Rose Convention in the heart of India – Incredible Madhya Pradesh. The state is globally recognised for its rich cultural heritage, monuments, and natural beauty. We warmly welcome rose enthusiasts and guests from across the world to the Heart of India.”

A notable development at the event was the election of Sushil Prakash as the new President of WFRS, making him the first Indian to hold this position. His appointment underscores India’s growing influence in the field of horticulture and floriculture.

The 20th convention in Japan saw participation from over 500 delegates from countries including Australia, Japan, Finland, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and several others. The Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai Patel, is the Chief Patron of the Madhya Pradesh Rose Society.

Shukla expressed pride in hosting the next convention, welcoming rose enthusiasts and visitors from around the world to Madhya Pradesh’s cultural and natural heritage.

The World Rose Convention is held every three years by the WFRS and is a gathering of rose lovers, horticulturists, and researchers worldwide. The 20th event took place from May 18 to 24, 2025, in Japan, featuring exhibitions, lectures, and workshops on various aspects of rose cultivation and gardening.
