The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has issued an updated travel advisory for Indian nationals in Nepal, stressing continued vigilance despite an improvement in the overall security situation.
The advisory follows recent unrest in parts of the country that had sparked safety concerns for travellers and residents. Officials noted that while tensions have eased considerably, caution remains essential. The Embassy has urged Indian citizens to avoid large gatherings, steer clear of sensitive areas, and stay abreast of local developments through reliable sources.
Indian nationals already in Nepal have been encouraged to remain in regular touch with the Embassy and, where possible, register their details to enable quicker assistance if needed. Travellers planning visits have also been asked to exercise discretion when moving about, adhere to local security advice, and maintain access to emergency contacts.
The Embassy emphasised that the advisory is not meant to deter travel but to ensure preparedness and awareness. “The situation has improved, but we continue to advise caution,” an official statement underlined.
The fresh guidance reflects a dual approach: acknowledging the relative calm that has returned while underscoring the need for prudence. The Embassy also highlighted its readiness to support citizens requiring help and encouraged them to reach out promptly in case of emergencies.
India and Nepal share an open border and deep cultural ties, resulting in frequent cross-border movement. With large numbers of Indian nationals travelling to Nepal for pilgrimage, tourism and work, the Embassy’s advisory is seen as a precautionary step to safeguard their well-being.
