IndiGo Charts Bold New Course Towards Global Aviation Leadership

IndiGo has announced an ambitious slate of strategic developments that further accelerate its transformation into a global aviation force. From long-haul route expansions and new aircraft to tailor-made premium products and maintenance infrastructure, the airline is scaling new heights to meet India’s aviation goals.

With a clear ambition to become a major global carrier by 2030, IndiGo’s approach remains grounded in operational efficiency, cost leadership and customer-centric innovation. Hosting the IATA AGM 2025 in Delhi cements its growing global stature.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said, “India is amongst the fastest growing aviation markets in the world; and as the largest Indian airline, IndiGo is committed to consistently increase its contribution to this growth. The financial year 2025 has been a pivotal year in our journey as we took significant steps in our evolution into a truly global airline. This includes the introduction of IndiGoStretch, our tailor-made business offering, and BlueChip, our loyalty program, besides sizable network expansion in the domestic as well as international market.”

“We are focussed on our holistic growth to be able to offer affordable, convenient, on-time travel experience to our customers on a growing domestic and international route network. We also remain determined to maintain our cost leadership while continuously enhancing our operational efficiency and profitability, thereby, ensuring strong returns on our shareholders’ trust, support and investment”, he added.

Fleet Growth & Route Expansion

IndiGo will add one new aircraft every week throughout FY26, taking its fleet beyond 600 aircraft by 2030. In addition to short-haul aircraft, IndiGo is boosting its long-haul capability with the damp lease of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and upcoming Airbus A350s.

From July 2025, new direct flights will connect Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam, followed by routes to London, Copenhagen and Athens. Expansion into Central Asia includes Almaty, Tashkent and Tbilisi, while Southeast Asia gains new links to Siem Reap, with increased frequencies to Bali, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Domestic Strengthening

IndiGo will increase its domestic network to 95 cities, including Adampur, Hindon, Navi Mumbai International Airport and Noida International Airport—becoming the first airline to operate from both new hubs.

Operational Backbone: MRO in Bengaluru

In partnership with BIAL, IndiGo will build a 31-acre state-of-the-art MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facility in Bengaluru. This strategic investment will increase aircraft availability and reduce maintenance turnaround time, capitalising on India’s talent pool.

Customer-Centric Innovations

Building on the success of IndiGoStretch—a 2-cabin business product launched in late 2024—the airline will deploy the upgraded A321 aircraft on high-demand domestic and regional international routes, including flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai and Phuket.

To elevate the in-flight experience, IndiGo will also serve complimentary hot meals and drinks from renowned Indian brands on long-haul routes to Amsterdam and Manchester.

Global Alliances & Code Shares

IndiGo continues to strengthen global alliances, extending its codeshare partnership with Japan Airlines to cover Southeast Asia and Tokyo. More reciprocal partnerships are expected to follow.

Financial Milestone

In FY25, IndiGo crossed the Rs 840 billion revenue mark, with a net profit of Rs 72.6 billion, including a record Rs  30.6 billion profit in Q4 FY25—making it one of the few airlines globally to breach the $10 billion turnover milestone.

With a robust financial foundation, strategic partnerships and an unwavering focus on customer experience, IndiGo is firmly on course to redefine India’s aviation footprint on the world stage.

“Today’s set of ambitious announcements for FY26 are yet another important step for IndiGo. Adding 14 new destinations (10 international and 4 domestic), growing partnerships with airlines and airports will not only be greatly beneficial to our customers but also at the very heart of our purpose of giving wings to the nation,” Elbers concluded
