In a landmark move set to boost connectivity and tourism, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and the Mizoram Government have entered into a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement anticipates the imminent completion of the Bairabi–Sairang New Railway Line, which will connect Aizawl to India’s national rail network — a vital development expected to stimulate both economic growth and enhanced accessibility in the region.
Under this collaboration, IRCTC will act as the front-end marketing agency, while Mizoram Tourism will provide access to tourism infrastructure, including lodges, and work with IRCTC to design tailored travel packages. The partnership aims to empower local Destination Management Companies and service providers to manage transport, accommodation, sightseeing, and immersive cultural experiences — from colourful festivals and bamboo dances to traditional music and ceremonial customs.
With its verdant hills, cascading waterfalls, heritage sites, and emerging adventure tourism appeal, Mizoram is uniquely positioned to offer unforgettable experiences rooted in cultural richness and sustainable hospitality. The agreement also aligns with IRCTC’s plans to launch a “Discover NE: Beyond Guwahati” special tourist train, which will include Aizawl as a premier destination for cost-effective and eco-friendly travel.
Through this integrated rail connection and promotional initiative, the MoU seeks to position Mizoram on both domestic and international tourism maps, while creating new economic opportunities for local communities, with the Northeast Frontier Railway playing an instrumental role.
