Air India
Passengers Advised To Check Flights As Routes Are Rerouted
On February 28, 2026, Israel closed its airspace amid sharply escalating tensions after it launched military strikes on Iran. Authorities in Israel advised people to avoid airports as a safety precaution and the closure has forced significant changes to air travel in the region.
One of the immediate impacts was on Air India’s flight AI139 from Delhi to Tel Aviv, which was diverted back to India, landing in Mumbai because it could not enter Israeli airspace. The airline said the decision was taken in the interest of passenger and crew safety and regretted the inconvenience caused. The return service from Tel Aviv to Delhi was also affected.
IndiGo said it was closely monitoring the situation and would adjust flight operations as necessary, urging passengers to check their flight status before travelling.
The wider airspace closure has also compelled other international airlines to reroute or cancel flights to and from Tel Aviv and neighbouring regions.
Some carriers have taken longer westward routes to avoid restricted skies, which may lead to refuelling stops in European airports for flights between India and North America.
Passengers heading to or through affected destinations are advised to stay in touch with their airlines and monitor official travel advisories until normal airspace operations resume.
