ITA Airways has inaugurated its first direct service between Mauritius and Rome Fiumicino. The inaugural flight landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on November 8, marking the airline's first nonstop connection to the Indian Ocean island.

The route will operate twice weekly using the Airbus A330neo aircraft. Flights will depart Mauritius on Saturdays and Mondays at 22:10, arriving in Rome at 06:40 the next morning. Return flights from Rome will operate on Fridays and Sundays at 22:00, arriving in Mauritius at 11:20 the following day.

Richard Duval, Minister of Tourism of Mauritius, said, "The inaugural flight of ITA Airways to Mauritius marks not only the arrival of a new airline but also the strengthening of a long-standing and cherished friendship between Mauritius and Italy. The new chapter that begins today aims to bring our peoples even closer together. It also paves the way for new opportunities in several areas — trade, culture, and above all, tourism."

Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways, said, "We are proud to be here today and launch the new nonstop flight from Rome to Mauritius. We are confident that this route will strengthen the ties between Italy and Mauritius, boost travel, and pave the way for future collaborations between our two countries. This island—the pearl of the Indian Ocean —adds to the wide range of international leisure destinations served by the ITA Airways network."

The new service forms part of ITA Airways' winter 2025-2026 schedule, which includes 53 destinations across domestic, international and intercontinental routes. The airline will also increase frequencies to Bangkok and Buenos Aires during the peak winter season, and resume seasonal services to the Maldives.

The Airbus A330neo aircraft features three cabin classes with full flat-bed seats in business class and WiFi connectivity throughout. The overnight schedule offers convenient travel times for leisure travellers, including families.
