India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a government-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Tourism, marked World Environment Day 2025 at The Ashok and Hotel Samrat in Chanakyapuri. The event centred around the initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5, 2024, encouraging individuals to plant a tree in honour of their mothers.
Led by ITDC’s Managing Director, Mugdha Sinha, IAS, the event saw active participation from senior management, staff, gardening personnel, and their children, recognised as the quiet guardians of the organisation’s green space. In line with the United Nations’ 2025 theme – Beat Plastic Pollution – the occasion highlighted ITDC’s ongoing focus on sustainable tourism.
The highlight was a symbolic tree-planting activity where each participant planted a sapling in the name of their mother, strengthening the bond between nature and family.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha emphasised, “Planting a tree in the name of a mother is like paying homage to the universal Mother Earth, the nurturing life force that procreates, nurtures and sustains all of life. Inspired by Hon Prime Minister's call of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, on this World Environment Day, ITDC reiterates its commitment towards a circular economy and sustainable environment, free from plastic waste."
Both The Ashok and Hotel Samrat exemplify climate-sensitive architecture, designed to preserve natural surroundings, protect existing trees, and minimise the urban heat effect, contributing to a greener environment.
