Skål International India has announced an extraordinary chapter in its journey. Recently concluded in Cusco, Peru, from September 25 to 30, the Skål International World Congress 2025 showcased India shining brightly on the global stage. With leadership, legacy and sustainability at its core, Skål International India demonstrated its vision to serve the industry, promote business among friends and lead by example. These triumphs mark a turning point in India’s contribution to Skål International’s global mission of advancing responsible tourism.

In a historic moment, Mohan NSN, Region 10 (India) Director and Deputy Vice President of Skål International, was elected as Vice President 2026 and President Elect 2027, becoming the first Indian to ascend to the organisation’s highest position. “This honour is not just mine — it belongs to every Skålleague in India who believes in friendship, leadership and service. Together, we will build bridges across nations and prove that tourism, when rooted in sustainability and unity, can transform the world,” said Mohan. While congratulating him, Sanjeev Mehra, President, Skål International India, stated, “Mohan’s victory is a defining moment for Skål International India. His leadership reflects our collective aspiration — to position India as a beacon of Skål’s core ethos, towards building a stronger global movement.”

A deeply emotional highlight of the Congress was the posthumous recognition of Late Syed Hafizur Rahman from Skål International Kolkata, who was named Membre d’Honneur 2025, one of the organisation’s highest distinctions. “This recognition immortalises the legacy of a true visionary. His contributions to Skål, Kolkata and Indian tourism will continue to inspire generations,” commented Mehra. Amin Asghar, President, Skål International Kolkata, added, “This honour is a proud moment for Skål Kolkata, for we carry forward the light of a legend. His vision and passion for Skål will forever guide our path as we strengthen our club and its role in the global fraternity.”

India’s commitment to sustainability and innovation was also recognised at the Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards 2025. The Asian Footprints (Whitehat Media), founded by senior journalist June Mukherjee, was declared the winner in the inaugural Communications category for its campaign Slow is the New Speed. The award was given in collaboration with UN Tourism (UNWTO), Biosphere, Sustainable Travel International and Responsible Tourism Institute. ITC Maurya New Delhi was also recognised in the Accommodation, Food and Hospitality Services category. “This award is a testament to the power of storytelling in shaping sustainable futures. Slow is the New Speed is not just a campaign — it is a movement that redefines the way we travel, with care, justice, respect and responsibility,” said Priyam Biswas, Publisher and Creative Director, The Asian Footprints and Founder Director, Whitehat Media. Mehra added, “This recognition reinforces Skål India’s pioneering spirit in sustainable communication and June’s ability to inspire global change as a responsible industry influencer.” Amin Asghar further noted, “June Mukherjee is a member of Skål International Kolkata for many years. Her campaign, communications skills and advocacy have made all of us proud by showing how creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand.”

With these triumphs, Skål International India has reaffirmed its vision of promoting friendship, leadership and sustainability. The organisation remains committed to advancing the UN Tourism Sustainable Development Goals, supporting innovative partnerships and making India a powerful voice in the global tourism fraternity. “Our goal is clear — to serve the industry, do business among friends, and keep sustainability at the core of everything we do. India will continue to lead by example, and these triumphs are just the beginning of a stronger, more powerful Skål India on the global stage,” concluded Mehra.
