LOT Polish Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance, has begun rolling out a major cabin upgrade, starting with the installation of new RECARO Aircraft Seating products on its Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Airbus A220 fleet. The first set of RECARO R2 seats was produced at the company’s facility in Świebodzin and is being fitted into the first of thirteen Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets due to join LOT’s fleet by the end of 2026.

In total, LOT will receive approximately 14,000 of these state-of-the-art seats, designed with a sharp focus on comfort, functionality, and sustainability. The R2 seats are equipped with features that enhance passenger experience, including a 60W fast-charging power outlet, a holder for personal devices such as tablets or smartphones, and six-way adjustable headrests for improved neck support. Contoured backrests with high-density foam and sleek armrests round out the ergonomic improvements, while lightweight tray tables add practicality.

Weighing in at under 10 kg per seat, the RECARO R2 model is not only lighter than standard seating but also helps cut fuel burn and carbon emissions. The seats’ modular build makes them easier to maintain, supporting LOT’s wider sustainability goals.

These cabin enhancements are part of LOT Polish Airlines’ broader fleet modernisation programme. The interiors of the new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft are being redesigned to echo the aesthetic of the airline’s Polonez business lounges in Warsaw and Chicago. Eventually, the airline aims to harmonise the overall look and feel across its fleet, including future updates to its long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
