Madhya Pradesh-shot Film ‘Homebound’ Creates Buzz at Cannes Film Festival

Madhya Pradesh is basking in global cinematic glory as Homebound, a powerful feature directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, received a nine-minute standing ovation at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The film, shot entirely in Bhopal and surrounding areas, was the only Indian selection in the prestigious “Un Certain Regard” section, marking a significant milestone for Indian and regional cinema alike.

Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Homebound stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, and was elevated further by the involvement of Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese. This recognition not only spotlights the film’s artistic merit but also reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s reputation as an ease-of-filming destination.

Principal Secretary and MD of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, celebrated the film’s success, stating that the state’s scenic landscapes, single-window clearance system, and supportive local communities have made it a top choice for filmmakers.

Homebound is the fifth Dharma production shot in the state. The crew praised the seamless shooting experience, citing Bhopal’s blend of urban and natural backdrops and the enthusiastic local support.

Madhya Pradesh’s Film Tourism Policy, launched recently, has attracted over 350 productions, offering financial incentives and promoting local talent. The state was awarded “Most Film Friendly State” in 2022 and continues to support national and international film projects.
