In a bold move to strengthen its coastal tourism economy, Malaysia has announced plans to develop an integrated seafood tourism hub along its scenic west coast. The project, unveiled by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, aims to turn Malaysia into a vibrant destination for seafood lovers, marine enthusiasts, and eco-conscious travellers.

Set to become a one-stop destination, the new seafood tourism hub will merge aquaculture, culinary experiences, education, and eco-tourism. Designed to promote sustainable fishing practices and highlight the richness of Malaysia’s coastal resources, the development aligns with the country’s growing focus on regenerative and community-driven tourism.

The project will feature fresh seafood restaurants, fish markets, aquaculture farms, and marine education centres that allow tourists to learn about the local seafood industry firsthand. Visitors will also be able to enjoy guided tours, cooking workshops, and nature-based activities along the coast.

"It is about unlocking long-term value through infrastructure that empowers people, sustains livelihoods, and positions Selangor as a state that leaves no region behind. We are building a foundation that will benefit not just today's generation, but those to come," he said.

Planned for gradual implementation in phases, the tourism hub is expected to draw investments and open opportunities for small-scale fishermen, seafood entrepreneurs, and eco-tourism operators.

Malaysia’s west coast, known for its diverse marine life and picturesque coastal towns, is already a popular spot for seafood. With this project, the region is set to become a more structured and sustainable tourist destination that appeals to families, foodies, and eco-travellers alike.

Once completed, the integrated hub is expected to enhance Malaysia’s reputation as a leading seafood and coastal tourism destination in Southeast Asia.
