Indian travellers will find it easier to escape to the Maldives, as the country’s national airline, Maldivian, has appointed AVIAREPS India as its official General Sales Agent (GSA) for South India. The move underlines the importance of the Indian market, which has already seen over 85,000 arrivals to the Maldives this year, a 4.7 per cent increase on 2024 figures. India now stands as the sixth-largest source market for the island nation.
With projections suggesting a 20 per cent growth in Indian visitors during 2025, the airline is looking to strengthen its presence in the southern region, where proximity makes the Maldives one of the most accessible international getaways.
“We are greatly encouraged by the growing interest from the Indian market, and the event in South India further reaffirmed the importance of this region for us,” said Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian. “With the support of AVIAREPS, we look forward to building stronger trade partnerships and welcoming even more Indian travellers to experience the Maldives and its diverse offerings.”
Marcelo Kaiser, COO Aviation at AVIAREPS: “We are proud to partner with Maldivian as their General Sales Agent in South India, one of the fastest-growing outbound travel markets in the region. India is not only a key source market for the Maldives but also one with immense potential for sustained growth. With our strong local expertise and deep trade relationships, AVIAREPS will ensure Maldivian strengthens its visibility, expands its reach, and provides Indian travellers with seamless access to the Maldives.”
Currently, Maldivian operates four weekly flights from Kochi and four weekly flights from Trivandrum to Malé, with departures scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. These services are timed to provide smooth connections and are supported by the airline’s extensive domestic network across the Maldives. This makes it easier for travellers to reach luxury resorts, dive spots, local cultural hubs and wellness retreats spread across the archipelago.
By partnering with AVIAREPS in South India, Maldivian aims to enhance trade relations, improve visibility and make it simpler for travellers to plan and book holidays. With convenient flight options and seamless onward island transfers, the Maldives continues to cement its place as a favourite short-haul destination for Indian holidaymakers.
