Portugal-Based Brand Completes 15 Years in Family-Focused Luxury Travel

Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts completed 15 years of operations in Portugal, marking a milestone in its family-focused luxury hospitality approach.

Founded in 2010 by Chitra Stern and Roman Stern with the opening of Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort, the brand was developed to address the changing needs of families seeking quality travel experiences without compromise. The concept was shaped by the founders’ personal experiences as parents and working professionals.

Martinhal’s hospitality model focuses on designing spaces and services that accommodate adults and children alike. The brand avoids standardised children’s programmes, instead integrating family-friendly design elements such as visible play areas, trained childminders and flexible dining environments.

The brand currently operates four properties across Portugal:

  • Martinhal Lisbon Chiado
  • Martinhal Lisbon Oriente
  • Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort
  • Martinhal Quinta do Lago

Each property reflects its location, ranging from coastal resorts and villa stays in the Algarve to urban residences in Lisbon, while maintaining consistent service standards across the portfolio.

Team culture remains central to Martinhal’s operations. Staff are recruited and trained internally, with an emphasis on consistency, familiarity and long-term engagement across properties.

Commenting on the milestone, Chitra Stern, Co-Founder, Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts, said, “Being family-friendly in hospitality is usually reduced to having a kids’ menu or a kids’ club or program. But for us at Martinhal, luxury for families means reimagining the entire experience and every detail, from design to programming, so parents can truly relax and children feel completely welcome and at ease.”

For Indian travellers seeking more extended stays, multi-generational holidays and family-oriented luxury accommodation in Europe, Martinhal continues to position itself as a suitable option in Portugal.

As it celebrates 15 years, the brand states it will continue to adapt its offerings to evolving family travel needs while maintaining its founding principles.
