The Michelin Guide is set to feature Philadelphia, with inspectors already exploring the city’s dining scene. The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau announced a partnership with Michelin, which will assess local restaurants and chefs for potential inclusion in the renowned international guidebook.
Philadelphia’s culinary reputation has grown alongside its historical sites and sports culture, with local chefs and restaurateurs contributing to its status as a foodie destination. State officials, including Governor Josh Shapiro, highlighted the city’s talented chefs and the importance of this recognition, especially as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary next year.
“In recent years, Philadelphia has become as renowned for its chef-driven food scene as it is for the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and its passionate sports fans," said Gregg Caren, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Our chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals have been steadily building our city into an internationally acclaimed foodie destination. This announcement that the MICHELIN Guide will be exploring the Philadelphia region to experience our restaurants is an acknowledgement of years of hard work, collaboration, and extraordinary culinary innovation."
“Philadelphia has a really special food scene, full of incredibly talented chefs who put immense thought and care into preparing some of the most delicious meals you’ll find anywhere in the world – and I’m proud to announce that Michelin is coming to Philadelphia,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “Our incredible chefs and restaurateurs – and the amazing farmers who supply so many of the foods that they put on tables all across Philadelphia – deserve this recognition and with the help of the MICHELIN guide, more people from across the country and around the world will have the opportunity to explore Philadelphia’s food scene. All eyes will be on Pennsylvania next year as our nation celebrates America’s 250th birthday – and this is one more incredible tool that visitors can use to begin to explore all that Philadelphia and our Commonwealth have to offer.”
Philadelphia will join other Northeast cities such as New York, Washington DC, Boston, and Chicago in the upcoming guide. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin, noted the city’s vibrant restaurant scene and the anticipation of discovering its culinary offerings through the guide’s anonymous inspectors.
The 2025 selections will be decided based on Michelin’s traditional criteria — quality of ingredients, harmony of flavours, mastery of cooking techniques, chef’s personality, and consistency. The complete list will be revealed at the annual Michelin Guide Northeast Cities event.
