As tensions erupt between Iran and Israel following a series of Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites, the Government of India has issued a statement expressing deep concern and calling for de-escalation.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in an official release, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and confirmed that India is closely monitoring developments, including reports of attacks on sensitive nuclear infrastructure. The Indian government emphasised the urgent need for both nations to avoid further escalation and instead engage through established diplomatic channels to resolve the crisis.

This comes on the heels of “Operation Rising Lion,” a massive Israeli military campaign targeting over 100 sites across Iran, including nuclear facilities and military command centres. The strikes reportedly killed high-ranking Iranian officials, including Revolutionary Guard commanders and nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran launched a wave of drones towards Israeli territory, escalating fears of a broader regional conflict.

In a significant fallout from the hostilities, Iraq has closed its airspace to all flights, and several international carriers, including Air India, have rerouted or suspended operations through the region. Major air corridors over Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Israel remain shut, disrupting global air traffic and straining commercial aviation routes.

India’s statement highlighted its friendly ties with both Iran and Israel and offered to support any effort that promotes dialogue and peace. The government also urged Indian nationals in the affected areas to stay safe, remain in touch with local authorities, and adhere to security advisories issued by Indian missions.

With global oil prices surging and diplomatic talks hanging in the balance, India’s call for restraint adds to the growing international demand for a return to the negotiating table before the crisis spirals into full-scale war.
