As rain washed the streets outside Tagore Theatre, memories flowed inside as Malayalam cinema’s beloved actor Mohanlal took centre stage at the 34th P. Padmarajan Awards, sharing heartfelt stories of his work with the legendary filmmaker.
Hosted by Air India Express in partnership with the Padmarajan Trust, the evening marked the 80th birth anniversary of P. Padmarajan, honouring his immense contributions to Malayalam literature and cinema.
The awards recognised leading voices in storytelling and filmmaking. S. Hareesh received the Best Novel Award for Pattunoolppuzhu, and P.S. Rafeeque won Best Short Story for Idamalayile Yakoob. Fasil Muhammed earned dual honours for Best Direction and Script for Feminichi Fathima.
The ‘Air India Express Tales of India Award’ was presented to Aiswarya Kamala for her debut novel Virus, along with a crystal memento modelled on the tail of a Boeing 737-8 and complimentary return flights.
Chaired by TK Rajeevkumar, the film jury also included Cinematographer S Kumar and critic Vijayakrishnan, while the literary panel was headed by Unni R.
The event concluded with a screening of Feminichi Fathima and a violin solo featuring beloved songs from Padmarajan’s films.
As a tribute to Kerala’s artistry, Air India Express showcased one of its aircraft adorned with a Kasavu-inspired tail design, reflecting the grace of the state’s weaving tradition. With the widest international network from Kerala, the airline operates over 360 weekly flights from the state’s four major airports.
