Boosting Tourism And Attracting Investment

As Mozambique opens up to greater global engagement, its new digitally enabled e-Visa system represents a key milestone in the Government’s wider digital transformation and border modernisation strategy. The initiative is designed to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen transparency and improve traveller convenience, while supporting the growth of tourism and investment into the country.

Developed in partnership with VFS Global, the upgraded digital platform leverages advanced automation, secure data handling, and cloud-based infrastructure. This allows travellers from 183 countries, including India, to apply online for Mozambique visas through a secure, fully integrated e-Visa system that manages the administrative and non-discretionary components of the application process.

The platform supports multiple visa and ETA categories, including Tourist, Business, Crew Transhipment, Sports and Culture, Humanitarian Assistance, and Oil and Gas. It offers both short-term and long-term stay options of up to two years, all accessible through a single, streamlined system.

Commenting on the initiative, Jiten Vyas, Chief Commercial Officer of VFS Global, said, “We are privileged to partner with the Government of Mozambique on this important digital transformation initiative, which reflects a shared commitment to facilitating secure and efficient global mobility. The newly upgraded platform integrates modern digital capabilities, representing an important digital gateway for travellers, businesses and investors, reinforcing Mozambique’s commitment to welcoming the world through secure, efficient and technology‑driven mobility solutions. As part of its implementation, the e‑Visa project supports local employment and capacity, thereby contributing to skills development and job creation in the country.”

The launch of the digitally enhanced system is also expected to play a key role in promoting Mozambique globally, with a planned tourism promotion programme that leverages the digital platform and an extensive international network to support inbound travel growth in line with the Government’s tourism objectives.

To apply for a Mozambique e-Visa, travellers simply need to visit the website, upload the required documents, pay the applicable fees online, and receive their pre-approved e-Visa by email prior to departure.

The platform is designed to provide a smooth and user-friendly experience, featuring intuitive navigation, automatic extraction of passport data, a built-in photo editing tool, and a secure international payment gateway that allows applicants to complete the entire process before travelling. Fully optimised for mobile, tablet, and desktop devices, the system also offers round-the-clock multilingual customer support to ensure global accessibility. As payments are completed online in advance, travellers benefit from a quicker and more streamlined experience at immigration upon arrival.

From a governance and security standpoint, the platform is built on a robust and scalable architecture, supported by cloud technologies and advanced cybersecurity protocols to ensure high performance, real‑time monitoring and uninterrupted availability. All applications are quality‑checked by a dedicated back‑office team based in Mozambique operating 24/7, while data protection and privacy are safeguarded through compliance with global security and data protection standards.

The Government of Mozambique retains sole authority over visa decisions. VFS Global manages only non‑judgmental administrative processes through the platform, ensuring a clear separation between service delivery and sovereign decision‑making.

VFS Global has experience offering its digital e‑Visa platform to 12 governments, including Thailand, Indonesia, Dubai, South Africa, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Azerbaijan, and Suriname, amongst others.
