NMDC Limited has invested Rs 298 lakh in developing a scenic ghat at the confluence of the Shankini and Dankini rivers in Dantewada, aimed at boosting tourism and supporting tribal communities. The project, part of its CSR efforts, improves access to the region’s natural beauty and aims to foster sustainable livelihoods.
Dantewada, known for the Danteshwari Temple and major festivals like Dussehra, has long had potential as a tourist destination but remained relatively underdeveloped. The new ghat is expected to encourage more visitors and stimulate local economic activity.
The development notably benefits local tribal families, who have traditionally relied on forest resources. Through increased tourist engagement, they now participate in eco-tourism, showcasing crafts and providing visitor services, which helps reduce environmental impacts and improves their incomes.
NMDC's initiatives also include support for community infrastructure, such as distributing tent materials to local groups, reflecting its commitment to social development alongside economic growth.
