Unprecedented speed and convenience as the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Dwarka Expressway open, slashing Noida–IGI Airport travel to just 20 minutes. The infrastructure, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to ease city congestion and boost NCR connectivity.

UER-II, a 76-km corridor described as Delhi’s new outer ring road, links Alipur, Mahipalpur, Mundka, and Dwarka. Built at a cost of Rs 7,716 crore, it’s aimed at easing pressure on Delhi’s Ring Road.

The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, spanning 29 km from Kherki Daula toll plaza to Shiv Murti at Mahipalpur, now connects seamlessly with the Gurugram section, opened in March 2024. The routes provide direct access to IGI Airport and areas such as Gurugram, Jaipur, and Dwarka, offering relief for travellers, including tourists and business travellers.

Revolutionising Travel to Delhi Airport

The combined impact of UER-II and the Dwarka Expressway is a 20-minute Noida–IGI Airport journey. This is a major shift for frequent flyers, easing the perennial traffic woes on Delhi’s roads and enhancing the overall experience for visitors.

As Delhi’s primary international gateway, Delhi Airport plays a key role in tourism. A quicker, more reliable route will help attract more international travellers and bolster business and leisure travel.

Seamless Connectivity for Delhi-NCR

The UER-II runs 54 km within Delhi and 21 km in Haryana, featuring eight lanes, multi-level interchanges, service roads, and underpasses. These modernisations aim to ensure smooth travel even at peak times, making it a preferred option for airport-bound travellers and other NCR destinations.

The expressways also improve access to major routes such as Delhi–Chandigarh, Delhi–Rohtak, and Sonipat, strengthening connectivity between Delhi, Haryana, and neighbouring states for residents and tourists alike.

Tourism Impact

For tourism, the corridors are a game-changer. Shorter Noida–Delhi Airport travel times reduce entry and exit hassles for international passengers. Visitors on short stays or business trips can reach the airport on time without worrying about lengthy delays.

IGI Airport, as India’s key international gateway, will benefit from smoother commutes, encouraging visitors to spend more time in Delhi and its surrounds. The developments position Delhi as an even more attractive hub for global business and leisure travel.

Reducing Ring Road Congestion

The Ring Road has long suffered congestion, especially during peak hours. The UER-II and Dwarka Expressway divert significant traffic away from this corridor, making city travel faster and more predictable.

For tourists, this means less time stuck in traffic and more time exploring Delhi’s sights, from the Red Fort to Chandni Chowk and India Gate—a more enjoyable experience for both visitors and locals.

Economic and Strategic Significance

The projects form part of the Delhi Master Plan 2021, aligning with broader government aims to improve infrastructure and inter-city connectivity. They are expected to reduce road congestion, improve airport access, and support business and tourism growth across the region.

The inauguration of UER-II and the Dwarka Expressway marks a milestone in Delhi’s infrastructure, delivering faster, more reliable routes for commuters and travellers. The 20-minute Noida–IGI journey is a notable convenience for frequent flyers.

For tourism, these corridors enhance Delhi’s accessibility, potentially transforming the visitor experience by reducing travel times and easing congestion.
