Prayagraj Airport has taken a major step forward by becoming the first domestic airport in Uttar Pradesh to have six aerobridges. This upgrade puts it ahead of several key airports in the state and just behind Lucknow’s international airport, which has eight.

What makes this even more impressive is that Prayagraj handles only domestic flights, unlike Lucknow and Varanasi. In fact, Varanasi Airport, which sees more flights overall, currently operates with just four aerobridges.

Out of the six new aerobridges at Prayagraj, four are already in use, while two are ready for future expansion. These bridges allow passengers to board flights directly from the terminal, making the process faster, safer and more comfortable especially helpful for older passengers, those with disabilities, or during busy seasons.

Airport officials see this as a future-facing move, especially with major events like the Maha Kumbh 2031 expected to bring in huge crowds. The added capacity will help manage peak-time pressure without overloading the system.

This isn’t just about convenience it’s part of a larger plan. With regional air travel on the rise and the government pushing for better air access in smaller cities, Prayagraj’s investment shows it's ready for the next wave of growth.
