Qatar Airways has revealed the largest order in its history, securing up to 210 Boeing widebody aircraft, including 130 firm orders for the 787 Dreamliner and 30 for the 777-9, with options for an additional 50 planes. This marks the biggest widebody purchase by the airline and the largest Dreamliner order ever placed with Boeing.
Alongside, the airline signed a deal with GE Aerospace for over 400 engines, including models GE9X and GEnx, to power its new fleet. This purchase represents the largest widebody engine order in GE Aerospace's history.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said: “We are happy to announce our agreement with Boeing and our partnership in the largest widebody aircraft order in Boeing’s history and the biggest aircraft order in our history. This is a critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation. This is so we can meet the strong demand in the airline as we seamlessly connect passengers to the world better than anyone.”
He continued, “After two consecutive years of record-breaking commercial performance and with this historic Boeing aircraft order – we’re not simply chasing scale; we’re building strength that will allow us to continue to deliver our unmatched products and customer experiences. We thank our partners at Boeing for answering the call and look forward to a future of continued smart growth together.”
The order includes 130 Dreamliners, offering improved fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, and 30 777-9 aircraft, which are designed to reduce fuel use and emissions while enhancing the travel experience. The airline also has options for an additional 50 aircraft.
This major investment will make Qatar Airways the largest operator of Boeing Dreamliners in the Middle East. The engine deal with GE covers maintenance and support, reflecting Qatar Airways’ focus on operational efficiency and fleet modernisation.
